Portland Bands Together

Times are tough but Portlanders are showing up for each other in many ways

In our last blog post, we talked about Oregon Food Bank, the ways they’ve changed their usual operations in the face of the COVID-19 crisis and how you can help them by donating through our webstore (a donation Lille will match). Today, we wanted to highlight some other amazing Portland-based charitable organizations that have stepped up their efforts to better serve the community in these unprecedented and uncertain times.

Organizations like The Sunshine Division Food Pantry, Transition Projects, Portland Rescue Mission and more are working even harder to continue to meet the needs of our community in these dire times. If you’d like to read more about, and donate to some of these incredible local organizations, Oregon Live published a comprehensive article on March 31st, 2020 that covers assistance programs ranging from food donations to low income housing support and the best ways to contribute.

Coronavirus in Oregon: How you can help nonprofits serving vulnerable people

In addition to established organizations stepping up to meet the growing needs of our most vulnerable, there has also been a rise in direct community organizing and group support networks. Grassroots volunteer efforts like the PDX COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network have gained traction using social media platforms like Facebook to coordinate and connect thousands of volunteers with community members in need. To date they’ve raised nearly $80,000 that will go towards the purchase of food and supplies for more those in need. The roughly 3,000 volunteers who have already signed up are offering free forms of direct community support ranging from assistance with grocery delivery to childcare while schools remain closed.

As a small business these are particularly uneasy times for us but our thoughts are also with those in our community for whom this crisis will have an even bigger impact. It has been so inspiring and encouraging to see our community reaching out to support one another, even though we are all struggling in our own ways. We love you all and hope you are taking care of yourselves and your loved ones, we will get through this together!
