Halloween Inspiration: Bettie Page

Halloween Inspiration: Bettie Page

If you’re going to do the ‘sexy’ costume this year, we can think of no better inspiration than the queen of pin-ups, the legendary Bettie Page. A performer and model whose work was very risqué for her time—almost laughably mild by today’s standards—her style has become an iconic representation of the sexuality and fashion of yesteryear. This look is not for the modest, so get ready to bare some skin and turn some heads in your best vintage-inspired skivvies!

Getting the classic Bettie Page hair in order is the first step: either take a trip to the wig store or get those short bangs you’ve always wanted. A little rouge, red nail polish, and red lipstick are the obvious compliments. In terms of the outfit, you’re going to want something that has that ’50s vibe—we love the Knit Jersey Cupped Bodysuit, or the Cherie Sneezing Contour Bra paired with a panty like the Loulou Garter Hipster (keep in mind, a robe like the Classic Kimono will offer some coverage over such an ensemble). Stockings are a big part of the look, so make sure you have a pair like the New Vintage or Sensitive Stockings and a garter belt like the Whisper to go with. If you are looking for a more colorful option, she always looked great in red; the retro feel of the Grisi Bikini Top and Bottoms would make a picture perfect ‘Bettie at the beach’ outfit. Finish the look with some vintage platform pumps, gloves, and—if you’re feeling saucy—a whip or riding crop, and get ready to tantalize!

Be sure to check out our Halloween Costume Guide and take 25% off items included in the collection with coupon code HALLOWEEN25. We are also giving away a $50 Lille Boutique Gift Certificate to one lucky shopper on Pinterest. Go to the Halloween collection and pin your favorite item with #lillehalloween for a chance to win (the winner will be selected at random on Halloween and announced here on the blog). Good luck!
