Join us to celebrate our 6th Birthday and Grand Reopening after some subtle renovations at both Lille locations. We’ll be popping the bubbly at 1126 SW Alder on Thursday, May 2nd from 6-8pm, and at 1007 E Burnside on Friday, May 3rd, from 7-9pm, where Megan Hanley will be displaying new works for her show, “The Sacred Province of the Feminine,” a series of etchings that explore the mother archetype and her relationship to animals, the earth, and the cosmos.
Taking direction from Joseph Campbell, Erich Neumann, and Carl Jung, Hanley juxtaposes the mythologies of different cultures in her elegant drawings. Her work poses questions about the role of modern women in society as compared to iconic female figures such as the Venus of Willendorf, Diana, ‘Goddess of the Hunt,’ and the Egyptian Goddess Nut.
Hanley feels strongly that the lives of our ancient ancestors were filled with drama, rights of passage, and a reverence for the earth. This series aims to expand our consciousness—to restore the feeling that we are a part of nature rather than above it.
We hope to see you then!
