As any Lille regular can attest, we are huge fans of Fortnight Lingerie, having carried the vintage-inspired line since its humble beginnings on Etsy in 2009. Designers Christina Remenyi and Alison Chown have since grown their small brand to a level of international acclaim and prestige that I seldom see from independent designers. They are 100% focused on fit, quality construction and professionalism, coupled with stereotypical Canadian niceness—they are honestly such a pleasure to work with because they truly believe in and love what they are doing. That level of commitment is what we are all about here at Lille: from producing quality goods in a moral and ethical manner by seeking out locally sourced materials and taking care of their employees, to staying true to their aesthetic vision by continuing to create soft cups, longlines and high-waisted undies when many new potential clients repeatedly ask young designers to make contour bras and thongs. These earnest lingerie lovers are ladies after our own hearts.
We have been so proud to stand by them over the years, promoting the brand with in-store trunk shows and fashion events, and we feel honored that they have gone out of their way to come to Portland just for us. The launch of the Asteria 2013 Collection in an exclusive fashion show for Lille Boutique at our upcoming Astral Bodies event on 12.12.12 is a prime example of this collaborative partnership we are intent on cultivating. The collection is, by far, their best to date, showing influences of postmodern design, geometric architecture, Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey and the work of minimalist sculptor Richard Serra, with new colorways, fabrics and silhouettes that had us squealing in delight at NY Market. Last year, Christina asked us what we would like to see in a new Fortnight collection, and our response was a resounding, “COLOR!” since nearly every Lille devotee already owned the beloved Rita/Angie/Jolene Longline in basic shades, but wanted that comfortable silhouette in a fun fashion color to show off.
You asked, and they answered, with gorgeous colors like Vermilion, Magenta, Cyan, and even Leopard. The iconic longline is available in nearly every option, and that sexy slip that flew out the door last season is coming in a new floral lace combo that is sure to be at the top of everyone’s Holiday Wish List. Their new herringbone mesh is modern and graphic, and they’ve used it to make the most incredible Demi-Cup Underwire Bra that inspired an impromptu photo shoot with Courtney at the Ace Hotel during their market presentation last August. We were all raving about the fit while drinking Sophia Coppola minis, and I declared it the masterpiece of the collection. Lille Girls who’ve glimpsed a sneak peek at the lookbook are bubbling with anticipation over the new Bandeau Bustier and Lyra Bodysuit, which will transition so well into our ready-to-wear wardrobes, further encouraging the innerwear-as-outerwear trend that we love so much.
Make no mistake about it: this collection will sell out fast, and quantities are limited. Our first shipment arrives next week, with another on its heels in December just prior to the event.
