We are so sad to report that the stunning Wundervoll collection we just received will be the last, as the husband and wife team behind the German brand will no longer continue to produce the gorgeous silk knit lingerie and loungewear that we have come to know and love. It’s particularly heart-wrenching since their latest offerings have been the best designs to date! I received this email from Matthias, the talented designer behind the brand:
Wundervoll presented its first collection as part of Berlin Fashion Week in January 2008. The “Boogie”, “Rock n Roll” and “Boom-Chic-A-Boom” lingerie sets were ground-breaking in their style and quality from the beginning – and Wundervoll has remained true to this philosophy. The positive feedback from the media, retailers and customers provided us with our incentive to drive forward our vision of “luxury underwear” with great passion.
Unfortunately, however, we failed to make a commercially successful brand out of our celebrated designer label. At the same time, the core business of Formesse developed to such an extent that it became increasingly difficult to manage the challenges faced by both areas. This is why I have reluctantly decided that the current spring / summer collection will be the last for Wundervoll. On behalf of the entire team at Wundervoll, I would like to thank you most kindly for your support during these fabulous and fascinating years. I would also like to say thank you to all those whose hard work has brought life to the idea of Wundervoll – especially Luise Blank (Design), Ulrike Kruse (Product) and my wife, Sonja (Marketing).

I don’t want to preach too much about the importance of supporting independent designers like Matthias, but suffice it to say that if we want brands like Wundervoll to stay in business, we have to support them, even if the price point is slightly higher. Good quality craftsmanship, in-house production and fine fibers cost a pretty penny, but you can really see the difference in the garments, and you’ll sleep better at night knowing you didn’t give in to the gluttonous consumption of the mass-marketed brands. Cheaper is not always better.
