At the request of one of my favorite customers, I am posting a few delicate laundering tips for those of you who want to get the most life out of your beautiful new Lille lingerie. As a general rule of thumb, you should always follow the care instructions on the label – particularly if it says Dry Clean Only – but any brand that encourages you to toss your delicates in the machine in a mesh washing bag is banking on the fact that your unmentionables will wear out faster and you will need to replace them more regularly. Bras should be laundered after 2-3 wearings, and it is best to rotate them on a daily basis to allow the material time to return to its natural shape. We recommend hand washing all lingerie in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent such as the Delicate Wash by The Laundress. I usually fill up the sink with a capful of detergent and start with the lightest shades – all nudes, whites and pinks can go in together – then move on to the darker colors, changing the water as needed. Bright colors like fuchsia or indigo that may bleed should always be laundered separately.
Attack stubborn spots with a gentle treatment like the Wash and Stain Bar or Classic Stain Solution, then let the whole mixture stew for a bit. After soaking your lingerie for 5-10 minutes, rinse thoroughly and air dry on a flat surface. Machine washing and drying damages fine fibers and causes undue stress by stretching out straps and rubbing on wires, so it is best to avoid this entirely. Happy laundering!
