Bathing Suit from the 1920s

It’s hard to find a cute bathing suit, but it’s even harder to find an appropriate cover-up that isn’t decked out in a tropical motif. I don’t know about you, but palm trees and hibiscus flowers don’t really work with my complexion. They’re always so unflattering and billowy too, and you end up looking like Homer Simpson in a muumuu or Blanche Deveraux at a Miami resort. Call me crazy, but I can’t rock either look. All I want is a cute little cami/short set or romper that my bathing suit won’t show through after I swim, giving me that unflattering wet-t-shirt contest look. While we don’t have any “official” swimsuit cover-ups here at Lille, we do have quite a few alternative options that I think would work just perfectly.

First off, the Baby Alpaca/Cotton Knit Cami and Girl Short by Skin are so reminiscent of a ’20s bathing suit that you may have a hard time taking it off at the beach, it’s that cute. Next, the Dasha Organic Teddy has a similar appeal, although I think the ultra-sheer cotton would work best before you swim – a wet suit will probably show through. Finally, The Lake and Stars “We’re On Break” Camisole with its sexy peek-a-boo silk straps will give the occasional sneak preview of your suit, while simultaneously allowing for the necessary ventilation to allow it to dry. Pair it with Vera Wang’s Silk Boxer Short or any pair of black shorts for a dressed-up-on-the-deck-of-your-yacht look.
