Our Ad Campaign

Our Ad Campaign

I received a message from a customer today regarding our ad campaign and its alleged lack of diversity. It’s always very upsetting to me when someone criticizes our ads or the email newsletters we send out because we work so hard on them and ultimately just want people to see the great lingerie we have in the store. We’re passionate about what we do, and that is reflected in the quality of our merchandise and level of customer service. I just thought I should write a quick post to clarify a few things:

1. Many of our images come from our designers, and 9 times out of 10, the typical model is going to be a size 2.

2. When we do plan and orchestrate our own photo shoots, it is on a shoestring budget, as we are a young store coming up on our 1st anniversary. We style the shoots ourselves, and my husband does the photography. We don’t have the budget that, say, Eres or Stella McCartney might have to hire models, and our friends usually model for us in exchange for some lingerie. So if you are a local Portland girl who wants to model, you should drop us a line – we’d love to work with you, regardless of your size, shape, color or aesthetic preference (i.e. tattooed ladies welcome.)

3. We have, in fact, featured ladies of diverse ethnicity and size in our ads, online in our web gallery, and in our fashion shows. (http://www.lilleboutique.com/fall/content/index.html) Perhaps you saw a few ads with the same petite blonde girl? That’s probably Brittany, our dear, lovely friend who models for us often, so we have a lot of images of her to choose from.

4. Our store has a very specific focus: that is, on beautiful, high-end lingerie, often made of natural fibers with a keen eye to design. We target our ads to our customers, but we don’t discriminate. It’s wrong to imply that we are anything less than open and encouraging to all women in shopping for lingerie that will make them feel beautiful, and if you’ve shopped in our store before, I’m sure that’s been your experience. If not, please let us know – we are always looking for ways to improve the shopping experience, and we value your thoughts and input. Looking forward to hearing from you!
